Jade Blossom Restaurant

Jade Blossom is a restaurant serving Cantonese cuisine at Krystal Point. The restaurant's good ambiance and setting is worth commending and it is an ideal place for entertaining in a business setting in the Bayan Lepas area.

Soup of the Day - Ginseng Chicken Soup

Steamed Cod Fish with Soy Sauce
We were surprised at the number of cod slices served in this dish. We ordered for 12 pax but did not expect to find so many slices of cod.

Deep Fried Prawns Coated with Vermicelli
This is one of their signature dishes. However, some of my colleagues found the deep fried vermicelli to be a tad oily for their taste.

Stir Fried Scallop with Celery
We found this dish from Food Paradise. The dish looked good on her blog so we decided to give it a try. It didn't turn out to be as good as we expected, but still acceptable.

Peking Duck
Personally, the best Peking duck that I have eaten was in Beijing, at the famous Quan Ju De Roast Duck restaurant. Ever since then, no other peking duck can really live up to my expectations :)

As usual, the Peking duck skin slices here were served with pancakes, scallions, cucumber and a sweet sauce. The Peking duck skin would probably be best if they were a bit more crispy.

The duck meat was then stir fried to taste with spring onion and ginger.

The bill came to around RM450 for 11 pax including tea, peanuts, napkins and a House Special Deep Fried Tofu (no pic).

I have been to Jade Blossom quite a number of times over the years and my dining experience normally depend on what I order. They have some signature dishes which are pretty good. Ask for recommendations from the crew ;)

P/S: I think they are having a Super Saver Meal promotion at RM9.80 (check out Malaysia Food Promotions blog)

The Eclectic

*** Updates: The Electic has since ceased operation and relocated to Suffolk House with a different concept. See my posts on Suffolk House here and here ****

We were in Batu Ferringhi so we decided to give The Electic a try for dinner. The Electic was formerly known as 68 Kelawei and we used to frequent the restaurant when it was still located at Kelawei Road.

We used to really love the Brazilian style buffet at the restaurant but he was feeling a little under the weather so decided to give the carvery set dinner a pass and opted for the ala-carte menu instead.

Clear chicken broth with wanton & sesame oil drizzle RM11

3 jewel mushroom cream soup RM13

Spaghetti aglio olio seafood ( spaghetti stir fried in olive oil with sautéed garlic, chilli & seafood) RM32

Angel hair in chilli tomato concasse with crabmeat & ginger flower RM36

The clear chicken broth was surprisingly good, served steaming hot with fresh prawn wantons.

The mushroom soup was almost perfect, very creamy like the way we like it, filled with chunks of mushrooms.

The pasta was done al-dente which was good but the thing that gave them away was the fact that they were unacceptably salty for our taste. I couldn't even finish half of the pasta. :(
Service was a little slow that night but all things aside the ambiance was great and we will come back to try the Brazilian style barbeque the next round.

Siang Seng Seafood Restaurant

If you have been to the once famous Hilly Town restaurant then you will know this place. The restaurant is located along the hilly Jalan Tun Sardon on the way up to Balik Pulau from Jalan Paya Terubong.

The Seang Seng Seafood Restaurant has taken over this restaurant which was once occupied by Hilly Town. This new restaurant opened not too long ago in April this year.

The decor has not changed much and the view from the restaurant is just as good. Seang Seng serves seafood dishes and Chinese "Chu Char".

Overall, it was a good dining experience given the reasonably good food and good view overlooking the Balik Pulau township, hills, trees and sea.

Balik Pulau township

The total bill came to RM34 excluding drinks.

Stir Fried Brussel Sprouts with Salted Fish

Hot Plate Tofu

Deep Fried Prawn Mantis with Kam Heong Sauce

We only saw the flyer on their recommended dishes at the check out. We couldn't quite make out the spelling for some of the dishes but here are some which we find interesting and which we may come back to try:

Spare Ribs Szechuan Style
Fried Prawns with Cheese and Minced Cherry
Siang Seng Mini Monk Jump Over the Wall

There is also a hearbal sauna operator at the back of the restaurant.

The View - Equatorial Hotel

The View Restaurant at the Equatorial Hotel Penang serves primarily French cuisine in a formal and fine dining setting. Dress code is smart casual to formal so no slippers, shorts, singlets are allowed, as stated on a sign next to the entrance.

Since it was a group function, it was very nice of them to allocate a private room for us.

The glass panel around the room gave us a great view of the Penang island's coastline as claimed by the hotel website.

We have always loved the Executive Express Lunch at The View mostly due to its semi-buffet lunch concept and the abundance and spread of the appetizer, salad and dessert buffet.

It has been more than a year since we were last there as a group and we noticed that the variety of the buffet spread is still there but in smaller portions. This is probably to avoid wastage. Eventhough so, don't fret as the service crew is continuously replenishing the buffet spread which is a good thing.

I particularly enjoyed the appetizer or Hors d'œuvre buffet spread with fresh oysters, smoked salmon, and a variety of canapes served with caviar, cheese, purees etc. Photos to follow.

Three of us had Penne au Canard Fume. We probably set our expectations too high as we were pretty dissapointed with this dish. It was a tad too Oriental for our taste since we were expecting something more "French" ;)

The others who had Tagliatelle Nicoise weren't exactly thrilled about this dish either but those who ordered the Salmon Steak and Fillet of Seabass loved them.

Salmon Steak with Lemon Capers Sauce

Tagliatelle Nicoise Fresh Tagliatelle tossed in Cherry Tomatoes Sauce with Black Olives, Capsicums and Baked Garlic in Olive Oil

Penne au Canard Fume Penne Pasta tossed with Smoked Duck Breast and Glaced Garlic

Fillet of Seabass with Hollandaise Sauce

The service crew were very attentive and even asked if anything wrong with our mains when we returned the plates almost half full. They were very receptive to our feedbacks and the Chef even offered to change our mains for us but we declined since we were almost full by then.

Since we were celebrating a birthday, the crew and Chef were so kind to offer us a complimentary chocolate cake for the birthday girl. I have to salute the restaurant crew for their excellent service and customer focus.

It was definitely a great dining experience albeit the pasta dishes which didn't go very well with our tastebuds. The ambiance was serene and good and the buffet spread was quite commendable.

For Meat Items they recommend either Béarnaise, Maitre D’hotel Butter, Shallot Bordelaise, Black Pepper or Mushroom sauce.
For Fish Items, they recommend either Hollandaise, Lemon Capers Sauce or Garlic Butter sauce.

Price ranges from RM58 to RM92++ per pax depending on the main that you choose, Whole Boston Lobster is RM36.00 Per 100 gm
