Sigi's 1st Anniversary Celebration Set and All New Menu

Time flies...

It felt like just yesterday when Sigi's Bar and Grill on the Beach re-opened after a nine-month makeover costing RM3 milllion. Soon it will be celebrating its first anniversary on 10 March 2011.

In conjunction with the special occasion, Sigi's is offering a limited-time-only anniversay set menu daily from 1 to 31 March 2011, except on Thursdays and Sundays.

The set meal consists of best selling dishes and selected new appetisers, main courses and desserts.

Sigi's 1st Anniversary Celebration Set Menu:

Appetiser
Gourmet Flat Bread
Salt and Pepper Calamari
Arancini Balls (Mushroom and pea risotto balls with minted aioli)
Wild Mushroom Soup

Main Course
Chicken Tandoori Pizza
Prawn Tagliatelle Pasta
Peppino's Classic Lasagna
Pan Roasted Chicken Breast
Sigi's Fish & Chip

Dessert
Chilled Rice Pudding with Strawberry Soup and White Chocolate
Bread and Butter Pudding
Chocolate Tarte

The limited time set dinner is priced at RM100++ per set, inclusive of one appetiser, one main course, one dessert and coffee or tea. The good news is, as part of a special anniversary offer, a complimentary set is offered with every set purchased. (Buy One, Get One Free)

The anniversary also marks the first major update to Sigi's lunch and dinner ala carte menus with 19 new dishes to choose from, be it an appetiser, main course or dessert.

The new additions which are highly recommended by Executive Sous Chef John Brock include Beef Cheek and Shallot Pie, Sigi's Paella for two, Lobster Pizza, Pumpkin and Spinach Rotolo, Lobster Linguine and Salmon and Avocado Terrine.

We are honoured to be invited to sample the old time favourites and new highlights from Sigi's 1st anniversary set and new menu.

Wild Mushroom (Mushroom Soup, Truffle Cream)
Cioppino (An Italian favourite, spiced fish stew)

This fish stew and thick fresh tomatoes puree combination is a welcomed change in the soup department.

Grilled Jumbo Prawn (saute of courgette, toasted almond and salad)
Mocktail
Pan Fried Salmon (Potato gallete, green peas, salsa verde and gribiche)

Slow Roasted Lamb Rack with broccoli, goat curd tart, Romesco sauce

The flavourful rack of lamb was definitely hubs' top pick of the night with its' tender meat and crispy skin. It is served with a special Romesco sauce made of almonds, hazelnuts and chili, amongst other ingredients. I absolutely loved the light and smooth goat curd tart.

I personally feel that the limited time set menu with the Buy One Free One offer is really value for money and is a great excuse to sample what Sigi's new menu has to offer.

Rotolo Pasta with pumpkin, spinach and ricotta and burnt sage butter

The Rotolo Pasta is a rather interesting dish and highly recommended by Chef John too. It is made of pasta sheet rolled with a filling of spinach, pumpkin and ricotta cheese in abundance.

Sigi's Paella for 2 (Traditionally cooked saffron rice, chorizo, chicken, prawns, calamari, mussels and capsicum)
Tagliatelle with Prawns, Chili, Tomato and Capsicum
Bread and Butter Pudding with vanilla anglaise

Sticky Date Pudding with calvados caramel and cream

Chilled Rice Pudding with Strawberry Soup and White Chocolate

Tuk Tuk Thai Restaurant

Tuk Tuk Thai Restaurant is a fairly new establishment at the Kristal Point strip. There was just the two of us, me and another girl friend so we ordered three dishes, handpicked by my friend who has frequented the place before.

Tomyam Prawn RM15

Kailan Salted Fish RM15

Steamed Tuk Tuk Fish RM15

Overall food was good especially the Tom Yam. The steamed fish was a welcomed change from the usual. The restaurant is moderately sized, occupying just the ground floor of the shop lot at Kristal Point, yet the decor is done with good taste.

Lunch Set Menu

Look out for their lunch set menu if you want something really value-for-money.

New ie Cafe at ie Organic and Healthy Food Centre

ie Cafe which is part of the ie Organic & Heathly Food Centre recently opened its doors for business at the D'Piazza Mall on 9 June 2010. It is the new branch of the original shop in Pulau Tikus.

ie Cafe currently serves organic and healthy set lunch which is available on weekdays (menu changes daily), ala-carte items (fried rice, spaghetti, meesua tao etc.), Easiyo yogurt, afternoon tea sets, fresh juices etc.

ie members enjoy 10% discount.

Open kitchen

According to the menu, intensive heat with high flames destroys nutrients in food especially vitamins B and C thus the reason why ie Cafe has adopted the slow cooking and low fire method.

Set Lunch (RM9.90)

I ordered the set lunch which came with curry chicken (with organic chicken), 8 multigrain rice, stir fried spinach, seaweed tofu soup and sugar cane drink. The set lunch is available from 11am to 2:30pm from Monday to Friday.

Sugar Cane and Soya Milk

Enjoying brisk business during lunch hours

Menu

Chicken Spaghetti (RM11.90)

Hubs ordered the chicken spaghetti. All tomato, potato, spaghetti and chicken are organic ingredients.

The menu is rather limited for now but it sure felt good to be eating healthy and wholesome meal.

Organic Mocha Blended (RM8.90)

They whip up pretty awesome mocha blended here. Thick and strong flavours.

This cute little cafe is designed with a semi-cottage feel and is decorated with personal items bought by the owner when travelling overseas.

Kids Corner

We have also tried their afternoon tea set on a different occasion. It is available from 2:30pm to 6:00pm and is priced at RM18.90 for two pax (RM11.90 per pax). The set includes organic tea, homemade biscuits, scones, fruits, sandwiches and cakes.

Wide array of organic and health food products

Organic foods are made in a way that limits the use of synthetic materials during production. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as organic; only during the 20th century was a large supply of new synthetic chemicals introduced to the food supply. This more recent style of production is referred to as "conventional." Under organic production, the use of conventional non-organic pesticides, insecticides and herbicides is greatly restricted and saved as a last resort. If livestock are involved, they must be reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones, and generally fed a healthy diet.[citation needed] In most countries, organic produce may not be genetically modified.

Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as "organic" within their borders.
