El Mondo Italian and Western Cuisine Krystal Point

As the name suggests, El Mondo serves Italian and Western cuisine. Opened in 2007 at Krystal Point, El Mondo has become quite a household name for Italian food in the Bayan Lepas area. Their menu is extensive with 17 Appetizers, Salads and Soups, 22 pastas, 18 Pizzas 15 Fish and Meat dishes to choose from. The pasta is supposedly hand made and the pizza freshly baked.

P/S: I have been really busy lately so you will sometimes see mini posts like this with short write-ups for the time being

Spaghetti Con Zuchini, Pomodoro e Vongole
Spaghetti with Zuchini, Fresh Tomatoes, Garlic, Clams & homemade Breadcrumb.

The pasta was done al dente, just the way we liked it but a tad bland.

Chilli Garlic PrawnsPrawns sauteed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Chilli, Garlic & Parsley served with plain sliced French Baguette.

We loved the dressing so much we wiped the plate clean with the French Baguette.

Chicken & Spinach Roulade
(Rolled Chicken stuffed with Spinach & Mushroom, served with Rosemary Sauce, Broccoli & Mashed Potatoes)
The spinach and chicken combination is interesting coupled with the mashed potatoes and rosemary sauce makes a good choice for a Main Dish.

Pizza Florentino
(Minched Beef, Spinach, Egg, Mozzarella Cheese, Parsley & sprinkle of Chilli Flakes on Tomato Sauce)

I don't especially like eggs with my pizza but hubs liked this because he loves his pizza with spinach.

El Cerdo - nose to tail eating

We were walking along Changkat Bukit Bintang in KL looking for a nice restaurant for dinner and found ourselves at a Spanish restaurant, El Cerdo, not knowing how famous this place is until I Googled about the it after our dinner.

El Cerdo means "The Pig" in Spanish thus the name of this restaurant which is famous for its pork dishes from around the world. The restaurant serves all things pork and a host of other interesting tapas and dishes e.g. paella, pasta etc.

We ordered some tapas and a paella to share. The waiter recommended their famous roast suckling pig but we didn't try because we felt it was a bit too heavy for just the two of us. However we saw a lot of people ordering this house special and read a lot of rave reviews about it so we are definitely going to try the infamous roast pork next time.

Prawns with Olive Oil Garlic and Chili (RM18)

Jamon Serrano - Thin slices of mountain air dried ham (RM18)

Loved the prawns but not the ham because they were too "raw" for me. Hubs loved both tapas nevertheless.

Rose Raspberry Sangria (RM25)

I loved the decor. It felt like you are transported to a small European town in a sidewalk restaurant. :)

Paella Traditional with Seafood, Chicken, Chorizo Sausage and Pork (RM88)

I loved the paella to bits. Even to this day I still pine over the paella. The paella took longer to cook (about 25 minutes) but it was well worth the wait. The flavours or the seafood, chicken and pork were so fully infused in the paella.

Churros Con Chocolate

Churros is the Spanish equivalent of the Chinese crueller or 'yau tiao'. The churros is deep fried
and sprinkled with icing sugar, accompanied by thick and rich hot chocolate. Simply decadent.

We were presented with a complimentary after dinner drink to aid digestion.

Business Hours:

Flamingo Sunday Buffet Lunch - 65 dishes to delight

After a few failed attempts, we finally managed to make reservation for the family at the infamous Flamingo Sunday Buffet Lunch. The sumptuous buffet sporting 65 dishes was the talk of the town when it was introduced in April this year.

Now after six months, the buffet is still so popular that the hotel has to extend to the ballroom to cater to the overwhelming patronage. I am not surprised given the variety of both local and international fare and the price of only RM25 nett per adult. To top that off, the first 10 guests and all senior citizens age 65 years and above get an additional 50% discount.

Ice Kacang and cendol

Do not expect to get the best of Penang hawker food here but personally, I feel the price and variety more than made up for it.

Do book early to avoid dissapointment.
