Steak Frites: Steak, Fries & Wine

As the name suggests, Steak Frites, serves primarily one type of food on its menu i.e. steak and fries.

Hubs is a steak lover so we jumped at the opportunity to try out the steak served here when we read about the review at Time Out Penang.

So we naturally ordered the one and only Grilled Australian Beef Tenderloin in Melting Café de Paris Butter Sauce served with Crispy Fries and Garden Salad with a glass of house pouring red wine.

The steak medium done, exceeded our high expectations. It was juicy, tender and flavourful. The Café de Paris butter was allowed to melt into the meat, adding another layer of flavor to an already great piece of steak. A very generous serving of crispy fries was served on the side.

Steak Frites retained the original design of the pre-war building with marble top tables and wooden chairs. The setting is relaxed and rather unique for a steak place. It is part of an establishment that includes a lovely boutique hotel: 23 Love Lane.

A must try indeed for steak lovers.

Barbecue Bounty at Sigi's Bar and Grill on the Beach

Sigi's Bar and Grill on the Beach has recently unveiled its' latest pride and joy, an outdoor barbecue pit on its' beach front. Measuring 5.2 metres in diameter and seating up to 12 guests, the one-of-its-kind circular pit is probably the biggest on the Batu Feringgi beach. We were recently invited with a few guests to sample barbecue delights prepared by Executive Sous Chef John Brock.

Be it a personal get-together or a company function, the outdoor barbecue pit is an ideal venue to let the hair down and enjoy the sunset or sea breeze, complete with your own personal chef and service staff for the evening. Impress your guests with the chefs in action, demonstrating their culinary and grilling skills.

Choose from two set menus priced at RM90++ and RM120++ per pax with a minimum of six pax. Both menus provide a variety of seafood, red and white meats with an extensive selection of starters and appetizers which include Caesar Salad, Pasta Salad, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, breads and desserts, and free flow of beer, house wine, virgin mojitos and soft drinks. Starters not to be missed are the Fresh Oysters with Chef's selection of dipping sauce and my personal favourite Gourmet Flat Bread.

The barbecue spread includes highlights like Grilled Moroccan Prawns, Grilled Snapper in Banana Leaves, Slippery Lobster, Chermoula Lamb, Minute Sirlion Steak, Tom Yum Spiced Chicken Wings, Chicken and Beef Satay and BBQ Chicken Sausages.

Gourmet Flat Bread and Garlic Bread

The Gourmet Flat Bread really needs a special mention. The flat bread is crispy with an abundance of sunflower seeds, olives, sun dried tomato and feta cheese. I ate at least three slices so trust me, they are really very good! :)

Strawberry Short Bread (loved this heaps too)

I especially loved the combination of the biscuit pastry, sliced strawberries and whipped cream.

Chocolate Tarte

Check out the full menu at Food Promotions site. Do give Sigi's a call to book in advance if you are planning for the perfect barbecue on the beach.

Eating in Hua Hin, Thailand

This is the first of my three posts on our trip to Hua Hin, the beautiful and oldest resort destination in Thailand.

Food is aplenty in Hua Hin: Thai and International alike. You will be spoilt for choice with the likes of Italian, German and French cuisines; Asian cuisines like Japanese, Chinese, Indian to name a few, Tex Mex and many more. Hua Hin is also famous for its fresh seafood, with it being an early fishing settlement.

Sizzler Steak Seafood and Salad (Hua Hin Market Village)

Hua Hin Market Village is a shopping mall in Hua Hin. There is quite a lot of restaurants at this mall.

We were drawn to Sizzler by its salad buffet which is included with every main ordered. The salad buffet has a wide variety of good quality veggies, fruits and dressings coupled with soups, pastas and desserts.

Fuji Japanese Restaurant (Hua Hin Market Village)

We were at the Hua Hin Market Village a few times so we also opted for Japanese food at the Fuji Japanese Restaurant because of the extremely value-for-money set meals.

La Paillote French Restaurant (Opposite Baan Laksasubha)

La Paillote is a cozy French restaurant right opposite from where we were staying. We didn't exactly order the French set menu but we ordered the Seafood set instead. I can't say much about the food but the restaurant ambiance was quite romantic.

Seafood at Khao Takiab

Seafood is not to be missed at Hua Hin. We had some really fresh seafood at the foot of the Khao Takiab hill at the south end of the Hua Hin beach.

Italian

On our last night in Hua Hin, we went to a little Italian eatery down the corner from our hotel (Baan Laksasubha) and ordered anchovies pizza and seafood pasta. (P/S: Sorry, I forgot the name of the restaurant)

And what's Thailand without Thai food. Though we mosty indulged ourselves in  international food, we didn't miss the opportunity to try some local delicacies.

Phad Thai

I forgot what this is but I think it's some rice noodles with meat or something

Look out for my upcoming posts on the tourist attractions in Hua Hin and the lovely hotel that we stayed in, Baan Laksasubha. Stay tuned! :)
