Lau Ee Home Kitchen

As the restaurant name suggests, Lau Ee Home Kitchen is a restaurant in the setting of a home. The owner actually operates the restaurant from his one-storey bungalow.

P/S: You will see his children running around in the comfort of their own home, which is quite interesting. :)

The menu is quite limited to their specialties, some of which we have ordered. As expected, since this restaurant is touted as a home fine dining restaurant, the price is slightly on the high side, especially the house special sharks fin (RM50 per pot).

Baked Crab Claw with Transparent Noodles

Fried Garlic Chicken

Baked Goose Legs with Egg Noodles

The Baked Goose Legs with Egg Noodles tasted a bit like the Baked Crab Claw with Transparent Noodles. I suspect they used the same sauce for cooking both dishes but with different ingredients. I would suggest ordering either one of the dishes, and not both.

House Special Sharks Fin Soup

The house special sharks fin soup was rather special especially when eaten with cilantro. The fragrant cilantro blended very well with the thick sharks fin soup. They also serve a special home made chili sauce with the soup

P/S: I have to admit that I did feel very guilty after the meal, considering the controversy over the practice of shark finning :(

Sis paid for the meal so I didn't know how much the total bill came to. I think it was a little over RM500 for 9 pax. Happy Birthday, dad!

P/S: Please call a few days in advance to order the house special sharks fin soup as it has to be specially prepared

Kampar Kam Ling Restaurant Chicken Bread

A few weeks ago, my brother-in-law was in Kampar attending his brother-in-law's wedding. :)

As expected, he bought the famous Kampar "Chicken Bread". I think there are two famous brands in Kampar i.e. Kam Ling and Yau Kee but he bought the former.

He bought both the Curry Chicken and Herbal Chicken version. As the names suggest, one bread is stuffed with curry chicken while the other is with herbal chicken.

I remember eating the Yau Kee Curry Chicken Bread in Kampar two years ago. I actually prefer the Yau Kee version for the Curry Chicken Bread.

However, I do recommend the Kam Ling Herbal Chicken Bread. The chicken meat was very moist and fully infused with the herbs.

Goh Teo Kee Sungai Ara Thai Food

This was one of the many times that we have been back to the Goh Teo Kee in Sungai Ara. See previous post here.

Pork Satay

Kerabu Mango

Deep Fried Toufu with Basil Leaves

Thai Style Steamed Fish

Stir Fried Kailan

Tab Tim Krob

As usual, food was good, especially the Tab Tim Krob. The total bill came to around RM250 including Green Chicken Curry and Seafood Tomyam.

Goh Teo Kee Taman Sri Nibong

We were back at Goh Teo Kee Sungai Nibong for Grandaunt Rebecca and Granduncle Yip's farewell dinner before they left for their home in Canada.

The Sungai Nibong outlet serves primarily Teowchew cuisine and Goh Teo Kee is probably one of the more famous Teowchew restaurants in Penang. They have a very elaborate menu at quite an affordable price.

Curry Kapitan Pork Ribs

Stir Fried Green Bean and Lady Finger

Braised Teowchew Toufu with Green Leek

Dinner is served!

Stir Fried Fresh Oyster

Atlantic King Cod

Fresh Sea White Prawn

Stewed Dried Seafood Claypot

Oyster Noodle

Teochew Yam Paste with Glazed Gingko Nuts

We ordered the RM298 set (for 10 to 12 pax). However, since we had 13 adults and 3 small children, we had to split into two tables so they offered to divide the food into two portions for us.

The set came with all of the above including Double Boiled Soup except the Oyster Noodle which we ordered additionally.
Food was good as usual except for the soup which was a tad too salty for our taste.

Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Cake

We ordered the Baskins Robbins all ice cream cake to celebrate our colleagues' birthday in March.

I opted for the Oreo® Cookie Cake design from the Elegant Designs series, with Jamoca® Almond Fudge and Peanut Butter `n Chocolate ice cream flavours. The two flavours blended well and complimented each other. The cake was priced at RM120.75 including tax.

P/S: The cake didn't look that great in the photos. I think it's because we didn't keep in the fridge before serving.

Happy Birthday YK and ST! :)

We especially look forward to Chinese New Year when Grandaunt Rebecca and Granduncle Yip are back in town from Canada. That's because they are such wonderful people and they make the best sui kow ever. :)

Kopi Cine Cafe - Straits Collection

Kopi Cine is a recently opened cafe at 55 Stewart Lane, which is part of the Straits Collection project in Penang. The project is another brainchild of the Bon Ton and Temple Tree Langkawi owner, Narelle McMurtrie.

The enclave is made up of two rows of old Chinese shophouses at Stewart Lane and Armenian Street respectively, which have since been turned into boutique hotels, a café (Kopi Cine), a public reading and film space (The Reading Room), retail outlets (Bon Ton The Shop and China Joes), and a soon to be opened tea salon.

Kopi Cine comes from the word 'Kopi' (coffee in Malay) and 'Cine' which is the short form of Cinema because Asian movies are shown free of charge at the courtyard area of The Reading Room every night.

The Reading Room

The Reading Room is a public reading space and is stocked with coffee table books, art books, novels and magazines etc.

Asian movies are shown at 9 pm here everyday.

Kopi Cine specializes in Italian coffee and homemade cakes, desserts and ice creams. Their food menu is divided into breakfast (9am to Noon), lunch (Noon to 4pm) and tapas / dinner / sharing plates (6 to 10:30pm) menus. They also have very elaborate drinks, cocktails and wine lists.

Mezze Plate – Hummus, Eggplant Dip, Tomato Salsa, Olive Oil & Dukka RM20

This mezze plate is an excellent choice if you want something light. I absolutely loved it.

Beef & Guiness Pie with Mashed Potato and Salad RM20 (The Day’s Special)

Hubs ordered the day's special and it was indeed very good. Thumbs up for the pie and mashed potato.

Iced Caramel with Gula Melaka Ice Cream RM16

This drink was very special and highly recommended if you like caramel. We absolutely loved the fragrant home made gula melaka ice cream.

Crushed Mint & Lime Soda RM10

A very refreshing drink. We loved it.

Steamed Apple Pudding with Gula Melaka Ice Cream RM 18

This was highly recommended by the waitress and we couldn't agree more.

Layered Ice Cream Cake - Gula Melaka, Chocolate & Vanilla with Chocolate Sauce RM18

This was another gula melaka ice cream dessert but it was so good we just couldn't resist it. I simply loved the crunchy caramelized sugar sprinkled on top of the ice cream.

Piccolo Latte RM9

Espresso – Single RM6

Overall, I loved the relaxed and lazy feel of the place, great coffee and excellent food and desserts. Another job well done by the Bon Ton group to preserve the Malaysia (and Penang) heritage.
