Goh Teo Kee is quite famous in Penang for its signature Teowchew dishes. They have three outlets on the island, one in Sungai Nibong, another in Sungai Ara and last but not least at Gurney Drive.
The outlet in Sungai Ara serves a combination of Teowchew and Thai cuisine. Their menu is very elaborate and they offer a wide variety of set menus for different group size and ala carte dishes. The outlet can accommate up to about 10 mid-size tables and is very clean and comfortable.
We ordered the RM398+ set menu for 10 to 12 pax.
Everybody liked the dish because it was different from the conventional Four Seasons that you get elsewhere. The BBQ pork was very tasty with the basil leaves and special soy sauce as accompaniment.
This dish went very well with most of us. The sea cucumber was very soft and stuffed with pork and water chestnut.
The Teowchew Yam Paste is an acquired taste so not everybody will like it.
Overall everyone agreed that food was very good except for the prawn dish which was a tad bland and the pork trotter which was a bit dry. The service was simply excellent and the staff very attentive and customer focus. Even the restaurant owner, Han, personally served and attended to us throughout our meal at the restaurant. Definitely a very good dining experience indeed ;)
